Can anyone at Apple comment on what are the potential career paths for Engineering Project Managers at Apple (in hardware)? Do they get recruiting interest for Product Manager roles (hw and sw)? What are some other options besides PM work? Question also applied to other companies that have a similar role. #hardware #semiconductor #programmanager #engineeringprogrammanager #apple #nvidia #productmanagement
If you are good at operational and high stress job, go to EPM. I'm an EPM and I use to do corporate event management at Intel. I rather enjoy the high stress and tactical work. However, if you like long term strategy and customer experience, that is a product manager. Both are great jobs at Apple.
Awesome! My understanding was that most EPM's come from technical backgrounds. Am I mistaken? Do you see MBAs doing this role? Also, where do you see you career going in the future? Just want to understand where you can take this skillet long term.
Yeah, most EPM use to be programmers. I've not met any MBA yet. A good EPM must have good organizational skills and enjoy making tactical plans. I think most EPM want to be manager but I have no interest in that. I would be be ecstatic retiring as EPM at Apple. You also need to enjoy talking with people, you essentially herding cats.
