Hello everyone, Currently working as a technical consultant. I joined Capgemini as new grad 2021 and now have one year of experience under my bell. Working remotely in LA as a Business Analyst building new application but not dealing a lot with technical complexity. Don't think I'm going to office anytime soon. Current TC: 79K 1 Year of Experience. On track to be promoted this month so TC may be looking about 10% increase. Don't feel like I'm learning too much technical stuff but rather understanding what the business likes to pass on technical team. Translating technical requirements to terms business understand and vice versa Got an offer for IBM as Brand Sales Specialist: Summit in SF. Unknown brand but with my background: Cloud, AI and Analytics may be a fit. 83k regular salary and will drop to a 50/50 split for a total of 120k after training if hit quota. Regarding job description it looks like I'll be doing sales development work within a specific account. I talked to HR manager and she said they might be able to transfer me back to LA once I finish my training ( which is what I wanted due to cost of living) About me: Have an aspiration to create solution that can help solve problems using technology. However, I want to be able to manage and measure those initiations effectively and work on some of the revenue aspect of product. For example, measure user's retention rates, come up with strategy for long term tech benefits, increase revenue X by implementing a feature, etc. All of that, when I did my research, belongs to Product Management ( correct me if I'm wrong ) I have a CS degree and have built multiple products and have experience in managing multiple people ( since school and now managing 4 offshores ) Some of the applications a small group of friends and I have created: Stock analysis using machine learning, Marketplace Trading App, Website redesign, mobile app local social events. Looking for opinions: - What path should I go?
Do you have a feel for the percentage of reps that meet their sales quotas at IBM? If you don't meet your goal for several quarters, which may or may not be easy in a down economy, you may find yourself unemployed. If you want to switch to a PM role, why not stay at Capgemini and transfer into that role there. Once you've successfully transitioned, then start job hunting.
Thanks for your input! I checked on repvue and the website said for this current role it's 60% of reps hitting their quotas. However, the program will spare me up to 1 year to not be on quota (ramping up period). So I'm hoping that'd save my ass from being on PIP. Regarding your second point I wanted to see if IBM would be a step up in term of jumping into big tech for product role. Because Capgemini is primary a consulting company, I don't know if I'll be able to pivot to a product company later. What's your thoughts on this?
How did you get such a high salary?
As an ex IBMer I could say go with IBM. It’s so big it’s really the department you are in that makes it good or bad. It also is going to be great on your resume going forward.
100% make that move. I graduated 2019 and began my corporate career with Capgemini as a business analyst as well. Stayed 7months and then went to IBM for a hefty pay increase. IBM is definitely the way to go as far as gaining experience and compensation compared to Capgemini. For context, I joined IBM through Summit as a brand technical specialist supporting our automation portfolio. At Capgemini I was aligned to PEGA. Ping me with any questions, happy to help.
IBM tc? IBM is not like super cool these days, but yeah better than Capgemini I think? If so siwtch & keep interviewing after IBM too
TC is 120k 50/50 if hit quota. Thanks for your input! I'm looking to transfer to product management in the future
I see 🙂
