Finally got my first SWE job at 33. 18 months of applications, about 11 months after completing 2nd degree in CS. Pay isn't as high as most blinders but its more then I made (non-tech role, no longer with VZ) and I'm incredibly happy. So, how old were you? TC: 75k #swe #software #engineering
You couldn’t become a network technician at vz or something? I know some of the RF guys there are banking. 75k seem horrible
Sorry, no one is “banking” in telecom unless you are in a very senior role. If given a chance most of them would switch to tech in a heartbeat.
I tried so fucking hard to stay with VZ. I only ever got 1 interview and the position was pulled after the last interview. I applied for more positions and literally couldn't get an interview. So I moved on. 75k works for me. It's a start and I'm glad to be in the job finally. Relatively LCOL of area.
Congrats dude!! Growth is exponential. So, does not matter when you start.
Thanks friend. Yeah thats what I hear, I'm thrilled.
I was 34. I went back to school for an associate's when I was 30 because I was one credit away and took an introduction to computer science course. Fell in love with it.
