What do you think about future growth in Netflix, as in changing tech stack internally within Netflix? How manager or others can help? Any clue about the process is welcome!#engineering #swe #software #engineering
People will talk about the new leveling system and how leadership is now participating in growth plans/discussions but it’s all BS. Levels exist to start ensuring we pay lower salaries going forward and there are maybe 5 engineering leaders that have a clue what growing and developing engineers means. That being said, as an engineer at Netflix you’ll grow more than you would almost anywhere else in a short amount of time. Your “level” might not reflect it but after a couple years you’ll be ready to tackle almost anything anywhere, most likely at staff+ levels.
Any ideas on how to best prepare for Netflix interviews? Aiming for ML Engineer roles or backend Engineer roles in 3-6 months hoping they would call me. - are levels secret?
Every team and role will have their own process, but in general, basic coding/problem solving, and a good grasp of scale, performance and design in whatever domain you’re in. Beyond that, there’s a good bit of behavioral and cultural assessment in each loop as well
In larger companies, personal career growth is less related to company/industry growth. Netflix is and will be better than most places.
Do you see any chances of changing roles internally speaking to the Manager or someone, if you wish to change your career path, like it's there in Amazon?
