I’m a software engineer now, what pivots can I make?
Get a job at FANG. $400K as a SWE is very attainable
I want more
I want to be where the people are
Medical school. These ridiculous compensation packages won’t last forever Given the supply of CS students in the pipeline
There will be a need for people to tell the fresh grads what to do.
Bad answer. Physicians are currently overcompensated because their supply is artificially limited. This means their high TC is not guaranteed for the future either. Becoming a very experienced, very skilled software engineer (not someone who competes for the same jobs as new grads) who can add a lot of value is a much safer bet.
Start your own company
Honestly this is how you get rich in tech
What's your current TC and YOE? Leetcode + sys design interview github + STAR practice can land you a FANG job with 350k or so at level 5. Time needed < 6 months till start date. Wait 3 years at FANG and change jobs to next FANG at 400k
What is STAR practice?
Situation, Task, Action, Result. It’s basically a model that allows you to tell stories
Always stay cognizant of your career trajectory. Are you learning a shit ton and working with really impressive people? If the answers no, move on. Are you building new and different skills instead of just honing existing ones? Also, don’t stay at one company too long. Companies don’t reward loyalty. Long term employees are the worst paid employees. If you haven’t seen the kind of TC growth you want, think about changing companies every few years. A change like that usually comes with a nice bump plus you learn a ton from going somewhere new. The best thing I did for my career was joining Microsoft out of college. The worst thing I did for my career was staying there more than 3-4 years.
Agreed. I stayed at a company for 10 years. Huge mistake.
Become prostitute for blind incels in Bay.
$400K in sales is very doable in FAANG also.
Why not friends but "friends"? Be clear.
FAANG is easy 400k
Work hard.
Wrong answer!
Well, it is a long route, but worked for me.🙏
