Anyone out there been in recruitment but wanted to change their career path? Advice / obstacles?
I'm a recruiter but trying to change. Had to put my career on hold a few years ago to help the family recruiting biz. My advice is educate yourself and get passionate about what you want to move to. Research what "entry level" jobs in the place you want to move to are like and learn those skills. If it's a new program, or modelling software or whatever. Show you can take the initiative to learn, then reach out directly to as many hiring authorities as you can and tell them what you have done and why you would be good for their company. Ask them what they look for in candidates and if they have any advice for breaking into that sector. Then learn more and repeat. The same goes for anyone looking to make a career change. Don't get so focused on one company like "I need to work at XYZ Corp and only at XYZ Corp". Look for any opportunity to move and get experience. After a few years you will be able to move towards your dream company. Good luck!
