Charging more for apple users

Elon is planning to charge more for users on the Apple ecosystem to offset app store costs. Why can’t every company do that to fight Apple’s monopoly? Amazon charges extra for Kindle books downloaded on iOS WhatsApp and Facebook marketplace are $0.99 apps on the App Store, but free on browser and Android, to offset lost ad revenue. Any idea what prevents these Companies from doing it? Is it a legal reason or just fear of losing customers?

Iphone users are on an average richer than an android user.

But that isn’t fair. I know folks who work super hard so they can get iPhones for their kids even when they can’t afford it themselves.

another big brain moment from Elon. Charging someone more because of their chosen platform…yeah that’d work out well. Another stroll in Apple Park and he’ll change his tone and get in line. again.

He is not the first one to do so.

I used a family member’s Android to buy a yearly subscription of Pocket for about a fourth of it’s cost for iOS.

Amazon Sm3llyF@rt OP Dec 12, 2022

Ah. But that experience will probably take you away from iOS to android in the long term. I was wondering why bigger companies don’t do it.

Accenture guruman Dec 14, 2022

Personally, I don’t think so. I don’t use too many premium apps.

Isn't that against app store policies?

Amazon Sm3llyF@rt OP Dec 12, 2022

As long as you charge everyone equally on ios you’re probably still within guidelines.
