Skype will kill Telecoms! Amazon will kill Walmart! Azure will kill AWS! Google Docs will kill MS Office! Uber will kill Taxis! Waymo will kill Uber! Amazon Deliveries will kill UPS & Fedex! Musk will kill Twitter! Feels like these types of Blind posts are mostly for Blind points...and attention. Relax, calm down. Not everything ends like Blockbuster. #chillout
But google will , mark my words !!!! đđ¨
Agreed. All good things come to an end, for all companies.
But your user name is KillMeNow! I digress: Itâs not usually the case that one company/product deals the decisive blow but innovation can fatally wound an incumbent and the death may come later. Think traditional media ads vs Google/FB PS, nobody outside Google thought Waymo would kill Uber
I remember WS analysts assigning Waymo a $175B market cap. That's killing Uber, plus some.
That was just Morgan Stanley âsell side analystsâ jerking Google off to get IB business. Their thesis was that Waymo would make a lot licensing itâs LiDAR and other tech and also in trucking and delivery. They climbed down real quick https://www.forbes.com/sites/alanohnsman/2018/08/07/why-waymo-is-worth-a-staggering-175-billion-even-before-launching-its-self-driving-cars/amp/ https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/09/27/waymo-valuation-cut-40percent-by-morgan-stanley-to-105-billion.html

Mmhhh fair point, but you should also list technologies/companies that indeed killed others, not only the ones that didnât. And also, several of those examples you shared didnât âkillâ but took a huge market share from them.
Agree. Taking market share isn't killing. Example: Amazon ads is huge, to the detriment of Meta and Google. Internally Google is probably 10x more concern about that than ChatCPT right now.
So your point is that a better product never kills a worse product?
No. I'm saying people are over reacting to a shiny new thing, jumping to conclusions.
The other day I tried to look up a simple question in google, a lot of the stuffs it recommended were garbages. I hop on to a chatgpt section and within 30s I got my answer. Google is shit nowadays because people like this guy.
Op, Many of those areas you called out were dramatically disrupted by new tech. Companies need to either adapt or die. Google docs did make a huge dent in Office, but MS responded with Office 365. One You missed: online movies will kill dvds! Btw, it did. Blockbuster is dead. Blockbuster did not adapt, while netflix who started out mailing Dvd rentals to people adapted and became the streaming king.
Can't agree more. Adapt or die. If ChatCPT gives Google a kick in the ass on competition, then that's a good thing. Netflix offered to sell out to Blockbuster for $50M. The CEO laughed them out of the room. It's an interesting story.
Hey we don't need anyone to kill our company. Our execs are enough
Looks like you are so sad. Try yourself to be chill
