Chinese want to go back, why not Indians?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-10/chinese-workers-abandon-silicon-valley-for-riches-back-home This rings true for my Chinese coworkers. Why don’t Indians also share the same mentality?

I guess we feel at home here and like United States. Plus India is not as successful as China at present and good tech opportunities are still a rare thing. I do believe that over the next 5-10 years qualified Indians will stop moving to US.

Because China is in much better shape then India?

Amazon 123raj Jan 11, 2018

Really? How much extra cardio does China really do?

Does China even lift?

Indian immigrants are way more adaptable to the US culture and language than the Chinese immigrants. The same goes for the language adaptability. On the other side, the basics like traffic sense, social culture, internet speed etc. are way more advanced in China, so outside of housing in large cities like Beijing and Shanghai, Chinese don't feel their lifestyle getting downgraded if they can score a job at baba or JD but Indians will have to degrade those basics no matter how much money they make in Bangalore or Mumbai. Tough to move back.

Amazon 123raj Jan 11, 2018

Bangalore may not have the infra yet but some companies/startups are doing great work

Uber HardBank Jan 11, 2018

Nah bro.. Chinese are super adaptable.. There has been a Chinatown in every city in America decades before Indians stepped foot in the US. Chinese have a long history of immigrating to US and Canada. Further Chinese adapt in countries where Indians won't even want to go like west African oil rich countries.

Uber HardBank Jan 11, 2018

China has developed itself at an amazing pace. In some cases its better than US in public infrastructure. So it's a no brainer for Chinese to go back

Uber HardBank Jan 11, 2018

Don't worry, in a few years Indians will leave US to go to China too lol

Americans leave the US to work in China already. Granted everyone I've met that did that only went for a few years and then came back. Then again, I would only meet the ones that returned. Hmm.

Microsoft yMcg47 Jan 11, 2018

Amazon 0fk3m9 Jan 11, 2018

Amazon 123raj Jan 11, 2018

Cisco nothing 68 Jan 11, 2018

The technology and startup scene in China and India are vastly different. In China, the government is actively protectionist against foreign companies entering. India on the other hand is a free market. You see a lot of Chinese companies take advantage of this an enter India. This suffocates out the early stage startups before they bud in India. As example, look at what is happening with Xiaomi, Huawei, and PayTm. It’s incredible that India is going through a demonitization policy and the biggest player is AliPay/Ant Financial. That’s my observation from traveling through the two countries and visiting the startup and tech companies there.

Amazon 123raj Jan 11, 2018

But in the long run free markets is the way to go

Uber HardBank Jan 11, 2018

Not sure if I agree with that line of argument. It is true to some degree but it's far for the leading cause of why Chinese tech scene is so robust. In China you have entire tech hubs which are dedicated to innovation and the Chinese government has invested heavily in education at research level by encouraging training Chinese PhDs in US and most of them come back to build stuff. Chinese government has provided infrastructure, city planning to let people want to live in thrive, compare that to a traffic and infra cluster fuck that Bangalore is. Sure governments protect their companies but they also encourage and let them thrive. Also demonization did more harm than gain to Indian economy so not sure if it was the right approach to adopt tech in finance.
