Cisco Glassdoor looks ok, but I can’t help but wonder if every tech company suffered the demise of culture (if they ever had one) during Covid. Are people respectful, challenging, open at Cisco? Do they laugh? Does anyone in tech find anything funny anymore? I’m looking for some kind of decent non-backstabbing team and the opportunity to go on at least one vacation a year. It’s been 2 years since my last one. *Cries in 30 something*
I never trust Glassdoor review. Why do you want to move to a place that will pay half of what you are making?
Because I’d like to see the inside of a book on a beach for 5 days a year. Because my kids miss me. Because I can’t remember what it’s like to feel happy or safe.
Then take Cisco out of it. You dont want to put your family into risk and stress out with annual/bi annual layoff threat.
Cisco overall is not doing good. Too many rolling layoffs and very unclear ELT. Most of core businesses is taken over by arista which caused rise of bad mgrs and toxic, bullying environment. Few BU are good like meraki, thousandeyes, few teams in other BU like sbg, duo, appD , mig. Hopefully you get hired in good team
@sancisco how is security and trust org?
Heard they are better than others but not immune to layoff. Security people can give better insight. I did not work in security but a friend there told it was ok.
I've been working for Cisco for almost five years now. The WLB is good and relatively less stressful and more forgiving management. I used to be in Collab group for a long time but I got moved out in last year's layoffs to SBG. Things are actually better here and been treated well The obvious downsides are the lesser pay and opportunities for growth and promotion. We are not hiring too many ppl this year but I would recommend Cisco groups like SBG, AppD and Meraki for good work environment, good teams and good managers if you are willing to take a pay cut. These teams have not been affected by layoffs among engineering, leads and management so they are more stable than others.
Did you take pay cut when you moved from collab to sbg ?
You’re right about things being better in SBG but there were layoffs affecting engineering here. 5% under our director which is not much considering how many people a director manages, but still a worrying amount. I’d stick to Meraki and AppD, they seem to be the most stable
Depends on BU, the core networking BU is a mess
Moved from meta to Cisco. Similar reasons as yours - WLB and time with kids. I feel good about the decision.
Interesting, which BU
Tc in meta and tc in Cisco? I feel you won’t like it after a year due to low refresher, bullying. Depends on team/bu of course
Non-backstabbing team… Not in this economy bro
Fair enough
