Currently my friend is a grade 8 Project manager in cisco. He has an option for a lateral move as a Technical Program manager. Although the position he interviewed for was advertised as grade 10 and he cleared all rounds they are now only offering him grade 8. The are giving pay raise of 10%. Questions he has: 1. Can you get promoted and jump grades in a lateral move at Cisco? 2. My friendβs previous manager was working on his promotion but he left Cisco. The work in the current team is average. Should he still stick around with the current team and keep trying for grade 10? 3. My friend has been at grade 8 at Cisco a little under a year. He has 10 YOE and TC base is 140k + bonus + RSUs. Is that a low, average or high band for grade 8? 10% increase with the lateral move gets him to 154k base. He is based out of MCOL in southern states of USA. 4. The technical program manager title seems more valuable in this move more than the raise. Should he go for it just based on that and they look for better opportunities inside Cisco and outside maybe in another year or two? #cisco #Cisco careers #Cisco salary #tech 5. In the current team, he is very secure and has earned trust with the team. He also has an advantage by being the only PM. In the new team, he will be part of of team with multiple TPMs. Given the current atmosphere of layoffs and considering this is Cisco, does this move seem risky?
TPM title is valuable. Nobody respects Project Managers in Tech so TPM will open doors. Tell him to take the TPM title and leave Cisco
