Hi - I joined a firm on the 3rd of February, 2020, and received a sign-on bonus of 10k. Due to toxic work culture, I resigned recently on the 11th of January, 2021. My last day of work is the 11th of February, 2021. HR emailed me today morning that I need to repay my signing bonus because my resignation date lies below the 1-year mark. How is this fair when my last day is beyond the 1-year mark? Also, how do I politely request them to forgive my bonus? Thank you. #interview #finance #nomura #bonus #asset #fixedincome #recruitment #hr #newyork #bank #financialservices #compensation #payroll #associate #banking #frontoffice #hiring #datanalytics #technology #bulgebracket #humanresources
did you check your initial job offer agreement to see what the conditions of the sign on bonus was?
Should’ve resigned Feb 4 with one week notice. HR is following due process per your contract. You could try to haggle that your departure date exceeds the 1YR mark and you provided notice early to ensure a smooth and successful transition. If you have no transition work, bank could just terminate you early to recoup their $10k and not salary you for another few weeks.
Can resignations be withdrawn?
Can they charge you interest or is there a timeline on when you have to LEGALLY pay it back? Find a loophole, don't ask for forgiveness in writing, imho.
Timeline is till 11rh Feb, I don't think it's interestable
Get an attorney to get you out of it. Had a similar situation with a sign on bonus. Keep in mind you need to pay back the pretax amount.

Should have waited for cliff date. Bad decision making process and you have to pay for it.
^ this. Always wait for the money to appear in your bank account before you tell anyone you’re leaving.
