Except for LA, new covid cases per day per million in California has dropped drastically over the last few days. Why is noone talking of reopening businesses? As it is, with high rent and operating costs each day of delay is killing small businesses and its employees. Looks like the government has no plans, no guidance to start reopening safely. We are losing livelihoods in millions with each passing day. High time we start getting back to business with proper precautions. Not everyone (unlike people in this community) has a cushy job that can be done from home and get the paycheck every 15 days. Its a lot easier to stay at home that way, isn’t it? But when your life saving is upside down, it is a different story.
Nah we are at least a few weeks out. If not months.
Happy earth day though.
You can join one of those protests if you like, catch coronavirus and perish
Median age of death is 80, and 98.5% of people who have died below age 50 have had a preexisting condition. Being young and healthy odds of dying aren’t equal to being hit by lightening, but it’s close.
@Intel you need to look at hospitalizations rate too. The fatality rate would increase dramatically if hospitals run out of capacity (ie if there was no shelter-in-place). Look at NYC data https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data.page AGE_GROUP Cases Hospitalizations Deaths rate 18-44 years 1519.93 151.79 12.64 0.83% 45-64 years 2465.6 618.86 109.09 4.42% 65-74 years 2499.44 1167.76 353.16 14.13% 75 and older years 2912.75 1770.28 877.74 30.13% Also, even if you survive, you may suffer from pulmonary fibrosis or other conditions for a long period of time if not for the rest of your life.
There will be a rise in a couple weeks. People are in parks and beaches not wearing masked or staying 6 feet apart. I was shocked when I saw it last week in Santa Cruz.
You are part of the problem. Why did you go to Santa Cruz when you’re supposed to stay home in Seattle?
Ha ha I live there. Lived in California for over a year. Come to conclusions easy?
I cannot imagine myself going to work in Bart
Ever.
I think when things reopen traffic will be a nightmare
It's a bit tricky as people always move around between LA and Bay area. We should open by June 1st. That said CA is also a socialist paradise where everyone is treated equally and young/healthy people have to pay the price for old/sick with this pandemic
Cases are dropping because of the measures that are in place. It’s kind of silly to suggest that the results of the measures are reason to stop the measures.

The problem is, you don't know that that is true. Look to Sweden for the counter
Look at Sweden they are doing fine. Too much fear mongering.
This post is so spot on. So many people that are so out of touch it’s crazy. Obviously everyone is in different situations, but a lot of people here are doing just fine (by that I mean not having to resort to food banks with all of your income flushed town the toilet because of the crisis) working for awesome companies. Additionally, I think a lot of folks here don’t understand the concept of flattening the curve so I’ll gladly explain: stay home so the rate of infection is manageable and doesn’t overrun the healthcare system. Of course rates are going to go up once states begin to re-open, however, that is where we can hope herd immunity will begin to take over and by the time a vaccine is out next year, cases will be under control.
We don’t know the herd immunity threshold for COVID, but it’s at least 50% of the population becoming immune. Right now in the US not even 1% of the population has been infected. I mean just do the math. I think people here understand flattening the curve, which is why the idea of reopening is ridiculous right now when we’re a year away (looking optimistically) from a viable vaccine (plus the time it’ll take to manufacture AND distribute), and our healthcare systems are barely managing (ofc, depending where you’re located in the US)
It is very very likely to be much higher than 1% given the lack of testing and the amount of asymptomatic or lightly symptomatic people.
