Anyone ever did that? How does that work?
It's deliberately very straightforward from a technical perspective (implement the behaviors of a Set); you won't need to prep. The exercise is primarily designed to see how you collaborate with someone else. The majority of development at Pivotal occurs in pairs, so your interviewer is looking to see if you'll be comfortable in that kind of environment. That approach definitely isn't for everyone, so I wouldn't take it as an indictment of your technical skills if you don't pass. And if you do, congratulations! You're one step closer.
Is there anything you would suggest that would increase your chances to clear the phone interview? I went through the same set implementation exercise and got rejected.
@progit what were the questions and what were you supposed to do exactly? And any tips or advice for me? I've interviewed for remote pair programming in another 2 days..
TDD to implement Set in Java. You just need to dance to their script. Look up on Glassdoor, they seem to ask the same Set question over and over again.
Can someone explain why they do it? I came onsite, did the whole tdd pair program a set thing, and was told I wasnt a fit. Id rather do leetcode questions because at least you know where you can improve and where you made mistakes. Its like asking a candidate, "whats 2+2?", you answering "4" and then getting rejected.
Yeah. My guess is maybe they are trying to judge how well you work with a pair programmer. But the way they do it is kinda lame.
