I’ve been trying to interview at Coinbase for a mid-level product designer role but I seem to be having a hard time getting an interview. I was referred twice but both times, even before I got to chat with the recruiter or hiring manager, I was rejected. :-( Anybody got tips on what the company is looking for from resumes or portfolio, so that I could improve? First made sure you “have the right brain” to work there. Google that.
Agree with the advice to jump to a more well known and respected company. Look up the backgrounds of people already on the team. Very likely that your portfolio is weak and doesn’t have the visual polish Coinbase will expect. Part of the problem is lack of prestigious names on your resume (not saying this is fair, just reality) and part of it is that without going to some of those prestigious names, you won’t have the kinds of projects and level of execution that their team is expecting or is used to evaluating. Also what kind of referrals are you getting? From a stranger on Blind or a high quality referral from someone who’s worked with you before?
Ah mostly folks on blind. Don’t know anyone there yet unfortunately
Yeah it probably doesn’t help. Sorry to hear though, tech can be very elitist if you’re not yet in the right networks. You can definitely get there but may need to make a smaller strategic move first, so you have access to the right people and projects to jump to Coinbase (or whatever place you want to go to in the future)
I have had a chat with a Coinbase recruiter when I was with the previous company (imo it has a similar name value with Sap) through a 3rd party recruiting company (so they introduced me to a Coinbase recruiter). I had an extensive call but they didn't move forward with me. I was never rejected by recruiters or hm phases before but this. i felt like the recruiter was very selective and wanted to find someone who has a deep understanding of crypto, even design positions.

Work for Amazon or a easier-to-enter tech company first. Usually people need a stepping stone.
Thank you for that feedback.. yeah, I have a feeling the rejection could be cos I’m at SAP now
