So coinbase doesn't do salary negotiations, and everyone at the same level joins with the same package. So I'm curious, does this mean your IC4 salary will at least be balanced to match the new joiners at IC4 next year, even if it increases every year? Bytedance sure as hell has almost 0 increments. Extremely rare from my experience. So new joiners always kinda get more than you. Unless you get promoted. Why would that be?
The way tech works is that you hire 10x performer, even it means over paying some people and pip them later. Same salary leads to average if not lower performance in general. Death spiral for moral too.
Is all comps are set, are the posting these somewhere ?
This sounds very interesting. I guess I would consider it it were not Coinbase (I don't really buy heavily into the crypto hype), and if there is no quota on the number of promos each year, since that seems to be the only realistic way to increase comp
Does coinbase have such a quota on promos?
From my understanding the only ānegotiationā with sign on is if you have any bonus money coming in from your current company within 90(?) days of starting.
Yep, the higher you go, the more the difference sticks out, especially if you are remote, IC6+ is where it gets crazy. Making a consistent $600k+ a year anywhere is already pretty crazy to begin with. Doing it fully remote from low COL location is game-changing. A lot of the most talented experienced devs would take that offer in a heartbeat. It is exactly what I did, and I chose it over five other offers.
Not 100% true. They also give you a signing bonus if they are worried you wonāt accept and have had trouble finding a good fit for the role.
any risk of asking for signing bonus? any stories of retracting offers?
Yes, all IC4s salaries will be the same regardless of when you started. The only difference is if you are in a Tier 1, 2 or 3 city. Also, an IC4 backend eng salary will be different than an IC4 in accounting. Itās the same pay for the same level within the same team / role.
Damnn thats pretty sick. I hope more companies start doing this
