Some companies dont even give appropriate feedback or get back for weeks after you submit the so called free of cost "home assignments". I've been a victim of instacart home assignment, took 4-6 hours to complete, just like they suggested it would take. Its been 20 days, never heard back on that despite my follow up emails. What do you think, will you do it if another company asks for it?
Only if it completely replaces onsite interviews. I hate airports.
I'm at the airport right now, flying out for an interview. And my flight is delayed :-/ Now it's going to depart at the time it was supposed to reach the destination
Not unless I'm jobless and my only full time job is the job hunt itself
I’ve turned these down when I already had multiple offers. I told them I didn’t have time. It’s like they want someone who is desperate or who wants to work there so bad.
Doordash also had a project which seemed to take longer than what they said, so I just passed.
I am on the same boat. Here goes 6 hour of my life!
I reject these. Waste of time there are plenty of other options that don't require it
I did one of these. I even went above and beyond and made it microservices with a load balancer front end and caching etc. it was slightly “load heavy” they said they’d actually run it against their system. Needless to say I went waaay over the 4 hours they quoted. Probably close to 20-25hr maybe more. In the end they loved it said it was the most performance they’ve had, but it’s like they went out of their way to try to find anything they’d improve on it. In the end it is what it is. But I won’t do another one again, unless like what previous post said, it replaces some/all of the on-site.
Interview process is already a month or 2 long .. home assignments for hiring is a bit much
ITT: people willing to leet code for months but not do a take home assignment
It’s different because you can study and pick what you don’t know/what you think you might be asked. Doing an assignment that actually takes a whole weekend is a big investment if you also have to do a full day onsite, and you don’t gain any experience from it. That is, in the case of those assignments that take way too long.
only if it's my dream job, or the assignment is educational and interesting, or I become unemployed and desperate
