Rejected my TikTok offer. Something I’m gonna regret?
I will be interviewing with a couple of tech companies (For staff-level ML-focused SWE roles). For some of them, the goal is to get an offer. For others, the goal is competing offers. Target companies: Facebook, Apple, Google Large companies for competing offers: Uber, Pinterest (to be expanded) Smaller companies for competing offers: Stripe? (To be expanded) For competing offer large companies, other than Uber / Pinterest, is there anything I am missing? Any other candidates here? For smaller companies with competing offers, any suggestions? TC: 320K (Sr. SWE, 10 YOE)
Want to maximize TC but no mention of TC? TC OR GTFO PLEASE.
Impossible unless you’re unemployed or take 1-2 month vacation
I have the time. 2 months, while on the job.
What about Amazon? For competing offer, I mean
Amazon can be, but only competing for level. Their compensation is useless for it to be a competing offer.
Not true, they can pay decent for external candidates. Don't make the mistake of joining though lol.
I interviewed a lot of companies a while ago and had 4 on-sites. My advice is to have the on-sites in a 1-2 week period so you can line up the offers. At this point, all the recruiters will ask about other companies so they will respond in time. Best way to work against each other
Although not as good as having competing offers in hand, I know for some companies they will let you negotiate if you just talk about unvested shares from your current company + on-sites scheduled and that you are ready to drop them if they can agree to a certain figure and/or sign-on bonus.
Can you name some companies?
It’s really hard to land a competing offer when you need it. Each company moves at their own pace and the timing can be off. Best bet is to set salary expectations early and negotiate from that point
