Are there any companies that have still retained good design cultures in 2024 during this layoff era? From what I heard maybe Apple may be the best in terms of valuing design but curious if there are some other companies that we should be aware of? #design #interviews #ui/ux
What is good design culture and how do you define it? I am asking because I joined a very "design-led" startup recently, and it's a traumatic experience. 100% preferred my time in what most designers will call less design mature companies.
A place that has an interesting stable product that is hiring designers and has good wlb I guess the bar is relatively low
What do you not like about Truist at the moment? I was able to produce much better work in finance/banking without the big tech and startup stress. So far I have: 1. Stable product 2. Many interesting, complex problems to solve 3. Very good WLB (compared to startups and big tech) 4. No bullshit interviews like take-home design exercises and 7 rounds of interviews to hire a designer.
If you're looking for a cushy job just designing UI for someone else's ideas, a company where PMs or execs lead is the place to be at. At places where design is valued, designers are primarily responsible for driving product experiences from conception to execution. In many Apple teams, PMs don't exist — they instead have a producer whose sole job is to coordinate handoff between design and engineering by setting up meetings, delivering files, etc.
