I’m looking around for new opportunities in design leadership. Which companies have good design orgs and are hybrid in California or remote. In the past I’ve heard Apple (some teams), AirBNB, Square…any other suggestions or places to avoid? #design 20+ YOE TC 700~
What’s your definition of a good design org?
Design has a seat at the table in product decisions, interesting projects, opportunities to grow large teams, talented designers - some mix of these. I’m also interested in hearing about places that should be avoided: orgs that are unstable, unfocused, with unpredictable leadership, like “X.”
I don’t think you’re going to find somewhere that ticks all or even more of those boxes in any considerable step up from Apple. You’d know more than me, but I interviewed at a lot of places last year and when I did my rounds at Apple it was a considerable step up in talent, knowledge and new opportunities IMO. Again, that’s just my outside perspective.
Holy that TC. May I ask what’s your Level in design? Are you on director/vp?
Leadership but lower than a director.
Doesn't Apple have an excellent design org? Why not move to another group within the company?
It’s a nightmare
My company has a great design org but only VPs make TC of $700k. 😑😑😑
What do you make?
Base $141k TC $175ish
