Company postpones promotions && raises...

About a month ago, my company had an all-hands meeting and said, "...as you all know, we're postponing this year's promotions and raises until next year. So, 2024 will include two salary increases. Thanks for understanding. Moving on..." I felt a few things as I heard this... 1. This was the first time I had heard of this. While I'm not entirely surprised, I find it weird that they waited until almost November to say this in our all-hands meetings. 2. Following this meeting, after a 1:1 with my direct sup, I discovered they were delaying annual reviews by six months. This is hard to believe because I've never heard of a company opting to pay two % bumps to every employee in the same year. It seems like they're dangling the carrot in front of us to keep the good engineers they DO have on staff from leaving. But if we're struggling with profits now, what makes them think 2024 will be different magically? ESPECIALLY only in the next six months? What're they gonna do, split one raise between two? So now 5% becomes two separate 2.5% raises? ๐Ÿ˜‚ 3. They "secretly" did layoffs in a few of our EU teams, and no one said anything about it. It was just one of those elephants in the room. I understand that sometimes this happens, but it sketches me out that they didn't even say anything about it to us in our private communication channels. That's a bunch of ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ if you ask me. start interviewing! also find out who secretly got raises anyway. business has to be quite bad if they are withholding raises for a YEAR and not telling you until 11th hour. youโ€™re a fool not to listen what they are telling you.

The same thing happened to me. You either take it or you leave. The upper management only work for the investors, and do NOT care about you. This is my opinion in the matter.

My company did that. You will not see 2 increases next year, I can 100% guarantee that. You will see 1 if youโ€™re lucky.

My thoughts exactly!

This is a classic case of "moving the goalposts". What your company has done is frankly insulting. If you stay, you give your implicit consent to be treated this way going forward. Meaning in a years time if they decide to delay raises again, they can because you and the rank and file have consented to this sort of behavior. Your ONLY way to rectify this is to apply elsewhere. Speaking from experience from having been in these situations before it's your best move as it makes it clear via attrition that you won't tolerate this.

I agree. Super insulting. โ€œMoving the goalpostsโ€ is a great way to describe it succinctly. Looking at other options currently.
