In final stages with Coinbase and Bolt checkout for Sr Software roles. How would you compare these companies? Coinbase: Leader in crypto. Public company Bolt: Pre IPO and paper money Coinbase: 206k, 15k and 175k for a year. TC~400k Bolt: 225k, 15k sign on and 8500 stocks for 4 years I want to learn more about the future of Bolt and is it a good time to join? Also folks at either of these companies, can you share details on work life balance and career growth at these places? [Request] Can folks share the reason? Is it because of TC or something else?
Coinbase is safe bet with recent regulations coming from government
Please share coinbase interview experience
Interview was standard. More practical than leetcode
Can you please share questions or pattern?
I have heard Coinbase wlb is shit tier ( just as bad or worse than AWS?). I legit work 4 days a week at Bolt and wlb is pretty good. I also thought they would pay more than this. In terms of financials they're way ahead of Bolt and actually profitable so much safer in that respect. Though Bolt also has 1 billion in cash reserves too. Keep in mind you're picking between 225k liquid TC vs 400k. In terms of career growth IDK about Coinbase but Bolt has a ton of projects we need to get done and not enough resources. However, we've yet to formalize what promotion program and refreshers look like.
There are no refreshes or additional grants upon promo is what I have heard btw Bolt offer is effectively $315k tc with sign on..
The last all-hands they said they're looking to change that but no idea what that will look like yet. Probably only find out in April. But yeah this is effectively 315k TC. Or 225k vs 400k. Bolt is selling that our valuation is gonna be 25 -> 50 -> 100 billion. But people need to take that with spoon of salt
8500 stock is way to low for a senior level position at Bolt, try to negotiate it, the options need to be doubled to make it worth.
At the current valuation (justified or not), I think 8500 is fine for Senior.
At current 11B valuation , (FMV- strike price) * 8500 is less than 300K over 4 years , a FB E4 offer is better than that.
Don't choose Bolt. That l5 offer is worth around 320k including signing. 11b valuation might be bloated too. The offer is utter shit and an insult to seniors. L4s at other companies make more with all liquid TC. Coinbase is all real TC, has stong financial s and has already taken a big hit, likely will have big upside this year if crypto continues to do well. WLB at Bolt is team dependent. Deadlines are strict on product teams. Those that claim great WLB are probably on internal tooling or testing teams. Just try to negotiate more TC from Coinbase. It's way more than Bolt but a bit on the low side
Funny how Coinbase folks recommend Bolt and Bolt folks recommend Coinbase. Grass definitely seems greener on the other side 😀
Coinbase is public. You don't need to work there to know objectively how much it's worth. There aren't as many question marks. On Blind people tend to overrate pre-IPOs that are priced to perfection. One thing that isn't subjective at all is the offers OP got. Clearly the Coinbase offer is way better even if you believe Bolt's valuation.
100%, but remember Coinbase does quarterly perf reviews and culls the bottom X%. To me this is even worse than Amazon. If OP values wlb and low stress I recommend another company. There is more to life than money
Currently at Coinbase and looking at Bolt or Atlassian. For me WLB is the most important thing. Clearly the 4 day work week is a thing at Bolt, but I’m seeing comments regarding super high expectations and letting poor performers go… I’m no where near a poor performer right now at CB but I’m an L5… both Bolt and Atlassian offers are L6/staff engineer
Mind sharing the offer breakdowns? Bolt expectations for L6 are extremely high. There's like around 10 L6s in the entire company. And we definitely let go of poor performers fast. Whereas Atlassian is known for being rest and vest. So if the offers are similar, I'd go with Atlassian.
Bolt was 480 TC, Atlassian was 360 TC. Both L6
Hate to say it but choose Bolt
Thanks! Any particular reason? Can I DM you?
Wlb is not great and infra isn't scaling which makes things even more difficult. With how comp works at Coinbase (annual grants) you are better joining a pre-IPO company if base salary is comparable.
