Just curious, what visas are the several Indian shopkeepers and workers on? How do I see several Indian smoke shop owners or helpers in stores, but all the tech people getting pissed over the 60 day policy? Being a veteran smoker, does it make sense to drop out of my $100k degree and just start a smoke shop? I don't have 500k to invest though.
Open a store with a friend have them sponsor your visa
They might have legacy wealth. A lot of Indians came here during the 70s-80s and setup shop. That’s why there are so many gas stations owned by Indians Early Indian immigrants were business folks (Gujrat)…recent ones are consulting and IT people. And that is by design and how difficult it has become to immigrate
This is the correct answer for anyone reading these answers.
Lol. Shopkeepers don’t need H1Bs. Shopkeepers might have GC or may be US citizens. They are most likely relatives of people who moved to US between 70s and 90s
Is being shopkeeper more prestigious than tech worker? What's their Tc?
Established ones with many franchises make between $300K and $500K easily. Most successful in US is Patel Brothers group (Indian grocery chain) with many stores on East Coast. Founder is a multimillionaire and has a huge mansion worth millions in NJ.
They’re (the shopkeepers) all mostly on green cards via some blood relative who sponsored them ie chain migration. They’re also big time Trump supporters too.
Interesting. Any underlying reason to support Trump?
Lower taxes
Definitely through some loophole. It's very popular amongst Telugu and Gujju communities to find innovative ways to game the system.
Yeah, interesting. This question is more focused on that. I see several smoke shop workers who moved to USA in the last decade, more so in the last 5 years. They're gujju or Telugu. So... What are those loopholes?
I actually see more of the "Tamils" gaming the system. All those "madrasis" illegally working on gas stations, "saravana bhavans"
Helpers come on visitor visa for 6months and keep rotating out
Usually through chain migration
They have GC

H1B is a temporary work visa. The tech workers continue to extend that visa while trying for other more permanent residency options.
So the shop workers are also on H1B, but prepared to go back when it expires? And who sponsors their visa? The stores? That's a lot to ask for, ain't it?
I think it’s a different visa if you open a business and create jobs? But I don’t know
