What is the difference between the compensation for Data Engineer vs Software Engineer at Facebook?

Base, little to no difference. Equity though... SWE is something like 2-3x
S/w engineers also deal with data. I see no difference between them. Data engineers a wasteful position.
Says someone who's never dealt with massive quantities of external data without a team of good data engineers.
Software engineers will build you a 'chainsaw'. Data engineers will make sure users have a user guide for it, are cutting wood with it, quantify how much wood they have after, and tell you how many more chainsaws to buy.
