Got impacted recently and I have an offer for a contract position at Google through and intermediary. While I appreciate that I can get back into the job market having recently lost a job I felt that the compensation being offered is a low-ball offer. Not having a job gives little leverage on things but the fact that they haven't been able to fill this role for some time now gave me a chance to negotiate. Negotiations didn't go as planned and I'm still getting the base offer of 90-100$ per hour. This is for a senior security role. Should I bite the bullet and work for something better with this offer or stay in the market for a longer time and try to land something? While I am inclined towards accepting the offer I am deeply frustrated at the almost exploitative nature of the market for those who are laid off where we are given little to no room for negotiations. That's how the world works but it's another cruel reminder of the souless industry. #security #cybersecurity #interview
If you are going through a vendor, they could be keeping some amount. You might be getting more than $100/hr.
yes im sure there is a 'cut' for them as well. Dont have much of a choice at this moment.
you’re misunderstanding a few things. this isn’t a job at google. it’s with the vendor. google is not willing to hire full time for this particular role. this isn’t exploitation of laid off workers. the lower level, less importance of this job is why it’s a contract at all and that’s the rate, period. such contracts are generally non negotiable. the pay is intended to be GREAT for a barely qualified worker. you may be better than that but the nature of this type of employment means that doesn’t matter for your pay. now that said you still have a decision to make.
Makes sense, thanks for the insight.

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
$90-100 is a decent rate TBH.
This is a contractor though. Depending on the state, taxes are much higher than regular w2
Thanks, I don't have much idea about the contract rates so this helps. I was not given any room for negotiation inspite of this being a sought after role left me a little sour. But your comment gives me a perspective about this.
