I told HR my manager has been assigning work to me that should be done by other employees. My manager has explicitly told me that the additional work should be easy for me to do. I told HR my manager marks all my projects as top priority. I am being ask to summarize and make things less technical for technical people. ———— She tells me to troubleshoot problems that should be fixed by the IT department or by the database administrator. I asked her to stop doing that. She asks me to troubleshoot my app when employees make data entry mistakes. I asked her to make sure those employees double check their work before escalating issues to me. I forwarded those requests to HR ———— My manager has refused to give me proper mock-ups for a change on the website. She sent me a Microsoft work document with arrows in it pointing to parts of the website for the desktop view. I didn’t get a mock-up for mobile so I asked for one to be created by the creative department. I had to figure out the mobile design myself, because she didn’t get it created by the creative department. While working on the mobile changes my manager asked me for a status update. I said the site is not complete, the mobile version needs more work. She told me to put what I did so far on the real website and fix mobile later. I didn’t agree with that, so I told her that I would put the bad code on the website like she asked me to do. ———— My manager sent me a picture of a printed document with lines crossed out and words written on it by a pen. I asked her to send the picture to the company’s proofreader, so that it is typed and proofread before I make changes to the application that I wrote that creates PDF versions of that document. She refused to do that. Instead she made me type the words and we spent all day going back and forth between me changing copy errors in my application and her sending me screenshots of the PDFs with arrows pointing to errors. ———— I am constantly being asked about the technical details for projects that I have worked on at some time or another in the past by my team. I always respond to my team with the link to the documentation for the projects. My manager says it is too much to read and that I should summarize it instead for the team. 1. I think it is unfair to ask me to write up a non-technical summary for another developer, a technical person, so that he can start to work on a project, that both of us had worked on previously at some point in the past. For the most recent project that teammate was the most recent developer to touch that part of the code. 2. I haven’t touched those projects in months , some years, so to create a non-technical summary I would have to read the technical documentation myself. ———— I told HR that she is bullying me telling me other people’s work should be easy for me to do and that she told me that when she tells me to call her I must do it. The call bullying incident happened while I was switching between answering the messages from her in Microsoft Teams while trying to fix the problem she was having with old data being stuck in the cache on servers. While I was fixing the code, she was messaging me with questions and when I didn’t answer her quickly enough she said that I must call her immediately when she tells me to. ———— My boss is constantly sending me zoom meeting invites for status updates that interrupt my work throughout the day. ———— On zoom calls when I told her I can’t properly estimate a the time for a project, she tells me it shouldn’t be hard for me to do. ———— She even asks me for updates on projects that she previously de-prioritize in favor of other projects. ———— She invited me to a zoom meeting with someone I had no idea would be on the call. She had me on a call with a stranger who was telling me that I needed to make some changes to the website. She told me that person is from an agency the company is working with so I agreed to do the work, but I said that I would need more details before I could do the work. Guess what I got an email weeks later from my boss asking me for a status update on the project that she never gave me the details for. I scrolled down the email thread to find out that that stranger had sent my manager the details the next day after that meeting. 5 days before she asked me for that status update, I actually found out that the agency was a replacement for a teammate who quit the job . I only found out he was gone when I asked him a question and my boss responded to me telling me that he is no longer with the company. I got pissed about that issue and the others so I messaged my Manager and HR with my documentation and screenshots of all the incidents I mentioned above and more. That day I got mentally drained because my manager called me to a zoom meeting where she was lying about having a previous meeting with me and another coworker where she claimed that she told us about the teammate leaving and about the agency replacing him. The meeting got heated, I lost my cool because she was lying to me, so I asked to leave the meeting after telling her that the project details given by the agency did not look right but I will review it first and will email them if I have to. After that zoom meeting I was drained so I asked for the rest of the day off. My manager and HR denied it. My manager said the reason is because the agency’s project was top priority, so she is going to need me to send that email before the day is over. I had to still work, so I sucked it up. I didn’t need to email them because I found documentation online that answered my questions. I worked on that project for the rest of the day. A few hours before the day ended she asked me for a status update on another project. This update didn’t make sense. It was about the blog being down early that morning, a problem that I fixed immediately after I received the email that something was wrong with the blog. Now that morning my manager replied to that email, directly after I fixed the blog, saying that she had no issues with the blog. When I saw that response from her I thought that there was no point in telling her that I fixed it, because she already said it was fixed. Now does it make sense that hours later she is asking me for a status update. I decided that that status update request was unnecessary so I would answer that email the next morning . That night I could not sleep so I decided to finish the project that the agency gave me.. I updated the project management tool about my progress. My boss sent me an email right after that accusing me of taking an unauthorized day off. I told her that she should have contacted the IT department before accusing me. The next day she invited me to a zoom meeting where she again, accused me of skipping work. She said IT said I was connected to the vpn, but because I didn’t send that email to the agency and I didn’t respond to that bogus status update request , that means I skipped work. Now how does someone skip work and still complete a project? Sometime after I started complaining to HR . The company sent out a new social media policy document where they blocked during work hours all social media, LinkedIn, Twitter, forums, blogs and wikis, etc. The whole policy was a vague mess. I am a developer, so on LinkedIn I asked other developers what their plan is for surviving in an alternative universe where their is no social media, no Stack overflow, no Twitter, wikis, forums , etc That day who manager who frequently spies on my LinkedIn visited my profile. Then after that I got a message from HR saying that I miss understood the social media policy and that I can’t post things that could be damaging to the company. Today my manager sent me a reminder that we have a scheduled 1 and 1. I thought this is cool. She is actually being nice, I got on the zoom meeting, and saw the HR person, and was immediately presented with a PIP. During the meeting today my manager and HR is saying that I am being insubordinate. Now the PIP is filled with lies that I have a pattern of missing zoom meetings and missing phone calls. I missed 1 zoom meeting that I know about because I was writing code. I am a developer so I cannot baby sit my email account during the day everyday. So that particular day I didn’t know I had a meeting. Why didn’t I know about the meeting. We had a planned 3:30 meeting which she rescheduled that morning. Then she cancelled that new meeting. Apparently she scheduled another meeting after I closed my email, because when I tried to join the zoom meeting I knew about she wasn’t on it. I checked my email to find out that she had moved that meeting, I apologized for missing that meeting and that’s when she asked for my cellphone number. In one of the screenshots for the PIP, she showed the email where she asks me for my cell phone number and I responded to her request saying that my phone is on “do not disturb” during the day. How can I miss phone calls when my manager doesn’t even know my cellphone #. She is already micromanaging me via emails and zoom. I would be stupid to give her a green light to send messages to my personal phone. So yes, I did not give her my cellphone number that day. Now the PIP also says that my manager is only required to give me 2 hours notice for zoom meetings. And that I must check emails every 2 hours during the day and must provide status updates during a 2 hour window and Instead of requiring other teammates to do their job to properly read the technical documentation for projects, the PIP is now forcing me to write up non-technical summaries for developers who are technical people. #micromanager #hrprotectingbadmanager
Not all heros wear capes.
Find new job, why are you still there?
I cant believe you wrote all that...or that I read it (are you sure you didnt really want to summarize all that documentation? 😉). You seem persnickety, but your work situation seems awful. If you are that good/competent, find a new job.....
I think this might just be a copy paste of the report OP sent to HR. 😂
Who cares
how dare your manager and HR treat you like that! what did the police say?
TLDR?
Holy shit, why should anyone care?
What is this? Your diary?
Why are you still there and putting yourself in this situation? If you're too good for her then GTFO. No reason is be stressed about it.
