I am 40+ and still a software engineer and I don't care about a title anymore. I have seen so many bad engineer calling themselves architect who can't even able to design one thing properly or unable to help the team with a simple POC😂. Don't quote me wrong I have chase the title but after understanding it's not your work. It's your gender, color and your relationship with your boss decides your promotion. I have stop chasing it. It's a race without a merits. So instead of chasing title, I am doing bare minimum to keep my job and instead putting my energy where I can make a future without any success dependency from my boss. How many of you consider yourself as a bada$$ at work, who don't give a 🖕
negl man if you write emails like this, it’s probably why you arent getting the promotions you want
Why would anyone write blind post the same way they write emails???
for most people on this app, title is meaningless
Yeah titles are dumb. Unless they are vp or c suite
It could be because of your poor communication skills. Soft skills are just as important as tech skills to grow in tech. Tbh, I found it hard to comprehend most of what you are saying
comprehension skills are just as important bro, catch up 😂
But I did manage to comprehend, with some effort :p In general, if the listeners have to put in effort or imagination to understand something, it’s on speaker
Titles dont matter if you write your emails like this.
Best way to get promotions in corporate world is to kiss ass 24x7, drink all the Kool aid you can, be a psychopath and backstab your coworkers. Basically you have to give up the qualities that make you human. I rarely find people in higher up positions that are decent human beings unfortunately. Just invest all your money and retire early so you don't have to deal with BS anymore. It doesn't matter how many promotions you get, you will always have a boss (aka be somebody's b#tch), even the CEO has to respond to the board and the board to Wall street. Oh, forgot to answer your question, no, titles don't matter. Your title will depend on who is your buddy and how much of the activities I listed above you perform.
You can be a CEO in 15 minutes by forming an LLC. Titles are stupid and relative, a middle manager at any Fortune 500 company has more responsibility and reports than 99% of CEO’s.
Hahahahhahahahaha 😂that’s very true
What makes happy matters most. I personally love a better title, it’s like driving a car with better looks, makes me feel satisfied.
Being a software engineer at 40+ is a blessing
How?
That means you found something you really enjoying doing ( or else most likely you wouldn't make this far) and a place allows you to stay SWE at 40+. And the pay is not bad. I myself doing SWE at late 30s, and I wish I will be doing it until retire
