I'm a recent college grad, and I currently stay in Phoenix, AZ. I was offered a job at Oracle in the Bellevue area, but I'm not sure if moving there is a good idea. If given a choice, I'd prefer to stay where I am, since it's much cheaper, the weather is great (except for 3 months) and I haven't really explored a lot in AZ. However, I'm concerned that if things open up, I might immediately have to move to Seattle. My current lease is expiring in July, and if I sign a new lease, it'll likely be for a year. If I'm suddenly called, I might be stuck with paying the rent for the rest of the year in case I'm not able to find someone to take over my lease. My manager isn't responding to emails, but someone under the same manager told me that they have to work with an overseas team, so those meetings will be remote for a while. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. #wfh #newgrad #relocation #returntooffice
Tempe is cheaper and also easy to sub lease . . Sign a 6 month lease and evaluate the situation later. Bellevue is bad but Tempe is far more worse . . Also Jan rent would be the cheapest
Tempe is worse weather-wise you mean? I really like it here after August. And it's cheaper too.
Tempe is worse in terms of things to do . . Bellevue Seattle has mountains and good for outdoors too
TheHulkv2 is right. I heard it’s pretty shit too. It’s more of a transplant city. You go there for a few years and get out. If staying in AZ isn’t a problem for you then stay for as long as everything opens up. Also depends on TC for your new offer. What’s the TC difference?
I'm a new grad, and this is the offer I've finally chosen, so I have no other offers. I plan to stay here and work remotely for the same company.
Did Oracle HR tell you what the policy is? If it's something like "employees will be expected in office when we reopen" then you can probably count on being there in person by the fall. If they haven't yet decided on a policy, I think it's still likely to be at least a hybrid (few days a week in office) model.
Dude, don't move to Seattle. It's SHIT. Expensive, crappy weather. Meh. Just try to stay remote for as long as you can.
Really? When I visited there for a week I realized that it’s really beautiful. Given that it was in summer so weather was good but overall coming from Austin I thought it was very beautiful nature wise.
Yeah, I didn't say it's ugly :) it is a beautiful place... To visit. Living there, it will wear out quickly. And you'll be miserable in the winter.
