I spent considerable amount of time trying to figure out why I cannot connect to wifi for Tesla wall connector from Tesla solar app. Then I learnt the wall connector wifi only supports 2.4ghz and wpa 2. I have eero pro 6. I had to disable 5ghz from settings -> troubleshooting-> temporary disable 5ghz. Also, I had to disable wpa3 from eero labs. Hopefully it saves you time. TC - 405k
My old router can simultaneously broadcast both a 2.4 and 5ghz signal with the same ID. Surprised eero cannot.
It can but sometimes its better to only broadcast 2.4z
Eero does. That's not the same as what is broadcast to connect to though.
What will you gain from connecting the wall connector to Wifi? I don’t own a Tesla so I’m naturally curious Do you see charging percentage etc?
It gives your charge stats and does auto firmware updates etc. It also shows how much power car is drawing using solar.
it also prevents blowing out your breaker if you have 2 chargers going at the same time
Dah, genuine. This is common knowledge
I knew the 2.4ghz but did not know it only supports wpa2.
What did it cost you to set up the connector? Also what was the cost of the connector? I’m thinking of getting one but I’d like to factor in these additional expenses before buying one.
Wall connector is like $500. My dad did the wiring and added a subpanel for it but without an electrician you can't get any rebates.
Ah, I just realized OP was talking about the actual charger and not the power wall. I already got the charger set up. I saw the power wall UI and assumed OP was talking about it.
lots of Tesla owner communities, best to check there too if having issues but it’s strange eero doesn’t have both at the same time? 2.4ghz isn’t that old to need disabling yet!
In fact, best not to disable it for the range. My 5ghz drops like 50% if I go between a wall. My Tesla wall connector probably can't even see that frequency it's so far from my APs
No issues on my dual band ssid. wpa3 will not work on a LOT of devices though
Lot of iot crap only supports 2.4 and gets confused with dual channel. I just create a 2.4 network for all smart home stuff.
Agreed. Eero has this option to disable 5ghz. Once its connected the dual channel works fine.
Most appliance type WiFi only support 2.4. It’s better for penetration through walls. My garage door opener is the same.
Yeah agreed. I have Aladdin connect for garage door. I forgot about disabling 5ghz.
