After making it to final rounds with several FAANG companies and missing the mark, my partner is considering an offer from Activision Blizzard. They are quite excited by the opportunity but what I've heard on blind and the news has me worried that they are walking into bad situation. Could any Blizzard employees share with me: 1. How is WLB? 2. Are real changes being made at Blizzard? 3. Is there any actual chance for advancement? Not that mine matters but TC 132k Yoe 3
Highly dependent on team leadership. If you're on platform (ie: Battle.net) your partner is in good hands.
I’ve heard opposite things about Battle.net mainly around toxicity
I know a few people who joined recently. Sounded like they cleaned house last year.
Yes, it’s a mistake. Have you seen the news? they’re under federal investigation.
Nothing like a federal investigation to welcome you into a company
Yes, who hasn't but I that doesn't necessarily mean the demise of a company. Generally, those result in leadership jail time or fines. Usually not a huge impact on the actual workers day to day but that was why I asked Blizzard employees for an answer.
Depends on the alternatives. Blizzard is not the worst game studio but is far from the top tier. I don't know if your partner is as SJW as you are, but it's hard to find a more woke company in the games. They have CCP cells so he or she can move to FAANG with a party referral.
It’s only become woke in the last 5 years or so, wasnt like there before. Is naughty dog not woke? TLOU2 was woke as fuck, and Neil Druckman seems like a c*ck. But ok. Lmao.
Naughty Dog is woke, but it's just few people in the management with the full support from the SIE HQ setting the policy. It's nowhere near Blizzard level yet.
Bro say yes and sleep on the job they’ve got enough on their plate then jump ships in 2 years
LMAO. I do not recognize this person 😂
Lol 😆 they are not really that type. They like to be doing stuff but thanks for the laugh you two 🤣
Game industry doesn't tend to pay well. WLB depends on the project which is often behind schedule. You've hear the crunch stories around game dev.
Yeah, I have and they've been in the industry before and left for a time but I think they really like games. I am an ex software dev (never games) so crunch time is quite familiar. Thanks for the reminder, I will be extra nice to them 😊
I’m sure wlb is great. I hear they have a Cosby suite…
Fuck Blizzard
Brrrrrrr. It's cold in here. Must be some rapists in the atmosphere.
Definitely depends on the team you're on. Send me a message if you'd like.
Hey Scarlett's can you help me with a referral?
Thanks. I did so. I really appreciate it.

Game companies are crap tier and activision is the worst
Game companies have a different structure than others. It's not for everyone, but for those of us that like putting out a cool product and aren't as worried about TC, it can be a fun adventure. But I defer to those at Blizzard/Activision if you want a feel of how their studios are.
I was on Web-Mobile-Bnet side. This is highly team dependent though. I had a horrible experience on one team (but- had a great experience on another). I have some friends that liked it there. Although I think my buddy is leaving soon because he's paid way below market just like I was (senior programmer just that they are on a Games team). He's been there many, many yrs and no promo or significant raise. But this is just one man's take. And Twitch is way better than that place (pay is way, way higher just on another level). Still get hounded by Game studio recruiters trying to persuade me to quit my full time, fully remote job to relocate to a HCOL area where I cant even work remote lol. I love games but I aint taking a 50% pay cut to work on them anymore.
