Hi, my fiancee and I are moving in together, and we are moving our internet service (Xfinity) to our new address, and also looking into consolidating our phone lines / accounts (me: Verizon, her: AT&T). I was in Xfinity store today, and I got a great deal on the internet for new customers: $65/month for 2 years, for 1000+ mbps (plus some TVbox package for free and other stuff). Definitely an upgrade compared to my ~$124 / month bill I'm paying for my own apartment unit. When I got this internet deal today, the Xfinity person also mentioned an additional crazy offer: "Move your 2 phone lines from Verizon to Xfinity Mobile (which also uses Verizon network), $30 / month / phone (unlimited data), $30 / month off internet, and $500 pre-paid debit card which you can use for purchasing anything.)". I talked to my fiancee, and we only went with the internet change. But after doing the math, and comparing the Option 1 of only changing the internet (which is what I did today) vs. Option 2 of changing both internet and phone lines, I'm giving Option 2 a second thought, see the table below for details. What would you do? Here is more info about Option 1 and 2: 1) Internet for Option 1 and 2 is the same: 1000+ mbps (plus some TVbox package for free and other stuff) 2) Option 2 requires us to move our phone lines from Verizon (me) and AT&T (my fiancee) to Xfinity mobile, which is part of Verizon network, according to Xfinity staff I met today. But when I do some search online, here is more: https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Reviews/xfinity-mobile-vs-verizon : a) There are perks, family plans in Verizon (not in Xfinity mobile), b) Xfinity uses Verizon’s network to provide wireless coverage, but there’s just one itty bitty difference between the two carriers: deprioritization. The term deprioritization means that Xfinity customers can experience data speed throttling, so Verizon customers have better connection speeds. E.g. in busy areas like NY, when using Uber app, Xfinity mobile users may have problems with data throttling, whereas Verizon mobile users will not due to prioritization. 3) The internet + phone package is really good: $30 / month / phone (unlimited data) (vs. our current $75 / month / phone), $30 / month off internet, and $500 pre-paid debit card which I can use for purchasing anything. See the math above. Option 1 yearly total is $2592 for both Year 1 and 2, and Option 2 yearly totals are $652 and $1152 for Years 1 and 2. What would you do? Does anyone have experience with Xfinity mobile? Should we go for it? Or should we go to Verizon instead for phone line consolidation, and look a family plan to reduce phone line costs?
Way too long. Don't get xfinity for anything obviously.
Xfinity is trash.
Xfitnity = trash plus you’re paying way more than fiber.
Marry someone else. You can't even pick an Internet provider and she can't either. One of you should be a functioning adult
Lots of issues with xfinity. The catch is that the price of cell phone line increases if you disconnect your xfinity internet due to any reason. Make sure you ask this question before making the jump.
Xfinity is absolute trash. Would stay away if I had other options. I pay gig but its at 700 at best days. Service goes out randomly (entire HOA complains) but their website/app says there is no outage in the area. We had to call their technician one time and they said there was some incorrect setup initially by them so that helped having less outages but they wanted to charge $100 technician fee for fucking up. Avoid like a plaque if you can
You don’t need 1gig. You can watch multiple streams of Netflix just fine with 50mbps.
How so? At work we have 1gig. All the work related stuff, not just streaming. 50mbps will not handle all.
It’s all about bottlenecks. Your end to end throughput is only as fast as the slowest hop. So let’s say you have a 1gbps pipe and want to stream a video, Netflix or YouTube won’t open a 1gig port on their end to match your capacity. They’ll limit you to the bare minimum required to stream an hd movie - which is around 5mbps.
You will get deprioritized on the vz networking meaning they prioritize actual vz customers
Xfinity phone is not working well, also you cannot use it in any other countries.
