Homeboy's an oligarch, in the same league as Putin, Erdogan, Trump, Thiel, Murdoch etc Twitter was excellent for free sharing of information. Extremely low bandwidth for use even in times of bandwidth throttling by governments, extremely good at content relevance, and unlike homeboy's shitposts suggested, has been excellent at bot detection and suppression with the most advanced network analysis algorithms that exist. This is all not very nice to an autocrat who spends so much effort to take over all media organs his constituents can access. Just to end up with people organizing all sorts of funny business like during Arab Spring, in Ukraine and Hong Kong etc. With it knocked out, there isn't really a good alternative. Video based platforms cannot substitute it. Chat rooms do not enable the same "global broadcasting" ability, which leaves FB, Reddit, and maybe a bunch of chan forums. FB could not care less about improving information access it seems, Reddit is way too conceptually flawed and already exploited relentlessly. Chans and old school forums... let's not go there. As a bonus, all those network analysis algorithms and models are available to an oligarch known for media manipulation for developing all sorts of countermeasures to make a bot network even more realistic, with increased outreach coverage etc.
Reddit is flawed?
It's open knowledge how easy it is to buy votes. Also moderator shenanigans. Combined it led to obscenely blatant stuff like the whole fiasco with GameStop and AMC
You can buy Twitter bots to retweet your shit too
“Homeboy's an oligarch, in the same league as Putin, Erdogan, Trump, Thiel, Murdoch etc” I wonder why you did not think of examples like Gates, Soros, Carnegie, Rockefeller?
Top of the list for media manipulation
The other names you mentioned are also oligarchs, it doesn’t invalidate what OP is saying
I'd like to propose a new conspiracy theory for consideration. Elon is changing Twitter to run Bitcoin mining JavaScript agents in your browser, and that's how he's going to monetize it.
Who owned Twitter before Elon Musk was forced to buy it? A bunch of socially concerned activist shareholders who wanted to selflessly make the world a better place or maybe a bunch of people who were attempting to leverage all that shit for profit? Same shit, different asshole. There’s no conspiracy or goodguys vs. badguys story behind any of it.
Leveraging a communication platform which already allowed free speech to make profit is still better than shutting it down altogether
It’s easy and common to misinterpret total incompetence as an advanced strategy that we cannot yet comprehend. And perhaps that goes both ways. Only time will tell.
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/my-boris-johnson-story/ It's a 5-10 min read but worth it. Gist of it is, that level of power literally does not allow you to be incompetent.
"Elon can't make mistakes because one time Boris made up a speech about farm animals" ????
This isn't a conspiracy theory. Rich people buy control. It's reality
But how did he become rich tho? By pumping dogecoin?? How is he different from a scammer then?
I don't get how things that Elon Musk or Donald Trump does is instantly evil while questioning voting or Joe Biden's involvement with overseas actors is instantly labeled a conspiracy. Strange times we live in.
"Questioning voting" Like vague accusations of cheating without backing evidence, while we have blatant shit like voter suppression with people waiting up to 8 hours to be able to vote, criminalizing giving water to the said people waiting in the heat, if they did not miss the suddenly shortened registration windows in the first place? Not even getting started on gerrymandering on both sides
