I’m pretty happy with my job now, it pays well and the WLB is great. But I am constantly chasing better comp and I hate that I have become like this. I’ve been applying to hedge fund jobs just bc I see friends working there knowing they make over 350. Is it worth it to keep trying for these jobs? I thought I didn’t care about money but I’ve been consumed by greed
Honestly, I used to be like that, chasing comp all the time, but as you get older, you learn there's more than just money. Work-life balance is important. Especially once you hit a certain income like 150k USD. Enjoy life while you're still on this planet because when you're almost dead, you won't be thinking, 'I could have made 100k more doing XYZ'.
This realization hits everyone at some point in their life. Money is not everything , but you need reasonable amount to make quality living ( very subjective ). It makes sense to chase comp if that is aligned with your goals in life, but that cannot be the only thing - forever. At some point, other things take priority and you will deprioritize comp. For some, it is health, for others it’s probably family, etc. You will make that call. Don’t let others be a judge. One thing I’ve seen in my circles is - chasing NW is a vicious cycle. Your target will always move up over time; then it becomes a rat race until you break down. Good thing is - you are aware of what’s going on, and you’ll probably make reasonable calls along the way. Not sure if this helps in any way…
If u current TC over 150k, and live in a state without state income tax. Please stay there forever
You're thinking too low. Start your own ideas and make infinitely more than you ever would chasing a W2.

How much budget do you allocate or end up spending on for lifestyle annually?
Seek therapy. No comp will ever be enough if you don’t sort out the dissatisfaction with your current comp, which is probably good. You’ll be chasing the wrong thing forever. TC: $300k
Is that so?
