I've been handed the pivot doc. I have received an offer from another employer but they have not initiated the visa transfer process yet, no exchange of info with their lawyer till now. They seem pretty slow even after I've tried to push them. Amzn HR will keep me on payroll till EOM for severance payment if I go that route. So my visa grace days start after that. Pip will give me another 30 days but can be cut short if the manager sees no improvement. I don't want to put any efforts for Amazon and also have to focus on a few other final loops of interviews scheduled. Not a great option to use FMLA again as I already utilized part of it. I'm trying to convince the HR to distribute my severance over 2 months keeping me on payroll till then, not sure if they will agree. Please suggest an option or any other alternative. Anything would be much appreciated. There could be things I could have done better in the past, not in a state of mind to dwell on those, but if you feel it would help someone you are free to write about that. From what I know, even if severance is give over two months for visa purposes last day is last working day at amazon. Keep that in mind.
Oh man. That will be crazy, the HR said I'll be on payroll, so if on payroll I'm employed by them. But will confirm again once!
It is last working day, talk to a lawyer or someone. I am saying this again because with visa stuff small things matter a lot.
You will get another job. Believe in yourself and don’t trust anyone who would take such a vindictive action and HR will NOT side with you.. don’t risk it
I've an offer already. Just that the timeline is not sufficient to get the visa transfer done on time!
I’d bluff and say I have another offer to get the visa transfer done and at the same time line up another offer that gets your visa
Many people mentioned FMLA, winder how it works. Just curious
To be federally protected you need to have worked for a company 12 months full stop. Even if they have its own exempt policy from the state that leaves a loophole for them to term you if you take medical leave if they can prove “performance issues”. So unless you’ve worked 12 months, you’re not 100% safe and should negotiate a severance if offered
Shit happens. Glad you have options. Good luck in the next company.
You can join on receipt. Just ask your new company to file for transfer and join.
Thanks for answering the poll. I guess for either of the two options my visa grace period starts EOM and I should prepare to go back to my home country incase the prospective employer delays the process further!
