I have an opportunity to move into a marketing contract role at #Google, 12 months with an option to extend. I'm currently two years into a "managed resource" role embedded in #Salesforce, it's like a contract role but with PTO and no end date. The Google hiring manager doesn't think conversion is likely and typically, these roles can only be extended once (so two years). The work sounds more interesting than what I'm currently doing, and the department is better aligned with my values, there's no PTO, but it pays about 5K more a year... I don't see a lot of growth opportunities in my current role, but I could maybe get hired into a different team and role within Salesforce. However, it hasn't happened yet, and nothing is guaranteed. So, my question is, is it worth it to jump to something that's a little less secure, but at another big-name company to get more experience?
I think two years is a good amount of time at Salesforce if there's no immediate growth path, and adding another huge logo to your resume can only be a positive thing. You didn't mention family at all, which makes me assume you can make this decision without factoring that in - meaning, you have a much higher risk tolerance. If that's true, I say go for it, but if you have family (and young kids and/or older parents), no PTO would be a huge downside.
What’s your current hourly rate at Salesforce? I’ve seen a few TVC - FTE conversions but it’s definitely rare.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but without the benefits of FTE, Google isn't a great place to work. Same red tape as any other large corp. I'm also job searching right now; I feel like Google is hurting my odds bc I've been told there's a perception that Google non-tech (and maybe tech, too) are entitled or "spoiled." I totally disagree with that sentiment, but just sharing what I'm currently hearing and seeing

I was a TVC (temp) for 2 years at Google before I converted. Do you know which agency? Do you know if you'll be a Temp, Vendor, or Contractor? Most Temps aren't getting renewed right now because Google is trying to have either FTEs or Vendors. Vendors, however, are very limited to their locations and what they can do. With that being said, if you think taking a risk and becoming a TVC at Google for 12 months is worth it, knowing that a lot of TVCs were laid off this year even before their service date ended, go for it. My Temp time at Google wasn't too exciting because of the bureaucracy, but it connected me to so many wonderful people who eventually hired me as an FTE. I've been at Google for 5 years now and saw TVC - FTE conversion less than 3 times. I'm in marketing, if that helps. The role can be extended by 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and so on. They can't guarantee you'll be extended by another 12 months. TVCs are extremely limited to resources, and unless your team gets a massive headcount, you won't grow.
Thanks for the insights. The agency is Judge Group, and it's a W-2 through them. I'm not sure if that's a temp, vendor, or contract. I haven't gotten the offer yet, so this is all premature.
