The man I love hates me because I’m Vietnamese
I’ve been offered to join Apple. DevOps contract position for InfoSec team. Couldn’t find anything online about the team. Would you recommend to join apple as a contractor? #DevOps
Never join any company as a contractor, unless you are a freelancer ... or you are out of job options
They posting FTE positions to the same team on LinkedIn and on their website, Do you think it’s ok to reach to them and ask for full time? Cause I knew it was a contract position when I interviewed.
Sure, if there is then good to ask. But fwiw I would rather be a fte in my company then try contractor posn in google/apple, not worth it unless they assure you will be converted to fte
Contractor life anywhere in Silicon Valley sucks. Ft is hard 1 of 5 contractors gets hired if they match the bar and team fit. Infosec team within Apple checks for vulnerabilities in infrastructure and apps. Overall good team if you want to learn.
What about people saying that you won’t learn much cause you won’t be given any good work as a contractor?
It depends on a lot. (Team, manager, projects etc) If u have a contractor that exceeds the bar and is able to contribute to things outside the scope of their work, the contractor would definitely be leveraged. What team is this? Do u know the scope of work?
It won’t be the best work more like support and projects others don’t want to work. That is true, you can always talk to the Recuriter nature of work.
I want to reach to hiring manager at Apple and ask for FTE only if not I won’t be taking the offer. I did well on interview they sent the offer in 3 hours after final round
I joined Apple as a contractor, as I got laid off from my previous company. I have joined only because I could not find an FT in time (I am on H1B). Being a Contractor is way different than FTE, I am not liking it at all.
Can you tell some of the shortcomings of being a contractor?
Are you being hired directly by apple or through a vendor? It makes a big difference in many ways
Through agency not direct contract
I applied directly through jobs.apple.com on Friday, let’s see if I hear back.
Who is the contracting agency? How can I get a contract job with Apple?
I thin it was Elexum
My personal experience is contractors usually do thing that no one wants to do, mainly manual stuff but it might differ from company to company
I know ppl that worked there as contractors and they never want to return.
They worked for InfoSec team?
It was a SWE. I don’t think it matters. At almost any company contractors are not treated nearly the same way as FTE.
