Hey all, Due to budget cuts and hiring freeze, all the funding for holiday parties from management have been paused for this year. My team (of 12 members) is planning to have a party next week which I won’t be able to attend due to myremote role. Some of the team members are asking for $50 contribution per person to organize this event. On slack group chat, I mentioned about being unavailable due to my role being remote. One of the members asked if I can still contribute $50. I want to be a team player but it’s crazy asking for that amount for someone who won’t be there to event attend it. What do I do? PS- bargaining the contribution amount is not something I would like to do LOL Suggestions? TC: $165K #culture #officelife #workplace
Ask if they can be inclusive of remote employees, and of course pay even otherwise.
No contributions since you won’t benefit from it.
That dumb. Unless your attending then no need to contribute
Just say sorry and don’t contribute. It isn’t that hard. They are your coworkers not your friends. It makes sense to do something for friends but not your coworkers. Blame the guy who thought it’s a good idea to party when the company isn’t paying anything. These people force everyone and think they are doing good.
That is absurd expecting remote people to pay. It is even weird that the managers and senior members of your team don’t just pay. That’s what happens in my team. Either my skip level will pay or senior members of the team will pay it all.
I’d pay anyway cause if they did send me some kind of remote package/activity I’d feel bad for not contributing
Are you managing the team? If so, you should definitely contribute even if you are not going. If you are an IC, you should still contribute unless it will jeopardize your finances. Like you said, be a team player!
Don’t go don’t pay
It’s only $50 effing dollars for effs sake. Guarantee if it’s your bday and they send you some remote gift card, you’d feel like shit.
What lol
