Brother beaten severely as a kid. Doesn’t speak to dad at all now.
I started my taxes recently and I’m seeing that the cost basis for VMware shares is 0 for both RSUs and ESPP shares. Has anyone dealt with this issue? I’m in Bay Area. Did anyone use a tax professional to get this issue sorted out. Please help with any references you have #cpa #irs #tax
@msft I'm also in the same situation. However, I've figured out a few things and I can share those with you. 1. Look at the Nov end 2023 statement in etrade. This will tell you how many total VMware shares you had and how many were converted to AVGO shares and how many were sold for cash. There may have been some fractional conversions as well (depending on the number of VMware shares getting converted to AVGO shares) which would have been sold for cash later. They only kept whole AVGO shares. 2. The above will also tell you the lots and the dates where the lots were acquired. You can then go to "confirmations" and find out the the cost basis for each lot (ESPP or RSU). Hope it helps!
Thanks for the response. I will check the Nov 2023 statement.

Will check it out. Thanks
You need to find your grant paper in E-Trade. It's under At Work - My Account - Stock Plan Confirmations. There will be one for each vest date. You will see what was already sold to cover taxes - don't do anything w these, they were already reported on ur W2. Any of the remaining shares that were sold should be multiplied by the share price documented in this doc to find your actual accurate cost basis. Just did it yesterday
The cost basis is the price at which I received that stock right? So, isn’t just the price mentioned in the document sufficient? On TurboTax it’s only asking me what’s the cost basis for the particular lot of shares.
Om turbo tax u have to check the box "my cost basis is wrong or missing" - continue - on next screen u can enter adjust cost basis. Do this for ALL your stock sales - enter adjusted cost basia
