I am living in VA and planning to relocate to Dallas TX. Can anyone help me compare cost of living in northern va (fairfax va) to dallas,tx? I know Texas doesn’t have state tax which can save me more 5% on tax.
Thanks. Good to know there is no tax on perishables.
The main cost is that you have to live in Dallas, TX. ;-)
Yap thanks mr.Google
in Texas you make up for lack of state income taxes elsewhere eg sales tax.
Yap it’s sales tax is little high around 8.5 compare to 5.6 in va 👍🏼
10.25 in Washington.
Living in Dallas won’t be much different then living in fairfax. You will get a bigger home for the money but that’s about it. In a good school district you would pay between 2-3% property tax. Your property tax bill will increase by 10% every year. A good house in those districts would cost you upwards of 600k+. Sales tax is 8.25%. Everything else is about the same price as everywhere else. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you so much! That helps a lot!
Woah... That is WAY out of the norm. I bought my 2400 sqft 4/2.5 house 5 years ago right under $200k. We live in a nice area and great schools from all we hear (don't have kids yet). Right now in the metroplex, the median housing price is $250-300k in nice areas. Of course you can find $600k+ homes and have an amazing school district, but that is BEYOND normal pricing.
in Austin the rental rates were higher than elsewhere but property is more affordable
Yeah no...housing prices in Austin are the highest in the state and one of the highest in the country
my comparison is to Cali and yes, it was accurate last i checked
I've lived in DFW my whole life so I can't compare my experiences of price comparisons with other places in the US, but here's what I can say: Housing market is in slight bubble again due to the large business development going on (thanks Toyota! 😃) but it's primarily impacting north Dallas. I stated above the median housing price is ranging in the $250-300k range for a 2200 sqft house. Prices of goods and services are relatively the same as other parts of the country. No big change there. Groceries are not taxed if they are perishable. Basically they don't tax necessities, but hit you on the pop tarts and snacks. Sales tax ranges per city because each city gets a chunk of the income. Lots of local mom and pop stores, but a shit load more corporate places. Tons of things to do for entertainment. We have every professional sport in the metroplex: soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. Great shopping. Tons of parks for nature activities. We have a gigantic airport in the heart of the metroplex that can get you anywhere you want to go generally nonstop. It's only a couple hours to an all inclusive Mexican resort where it's super cheap. You can't go hungry no matter what kind of food you like. Restaurants come and go, but the diversity remains the same. I love it!
Thanks 🙏🏻 it really helps me

Thank you AAPL and NVDA
Dallas is cheaper than VA . Not only state tax but there is no tax on perishables. Housing is lot cheaper too
How are property taxes? I heard they were quite high.
Depending on where you live it can get higher, but majority of cities sit around the 3% mark. Still much cheaper than state income.
