Hi, I am about to move to bay area with my wife and thinking of living in sunnyvale. Based on some research I have made the below budget. Do you guys think it is enough we don’t plan to live an extravagant life just trying to save more. Is the below doable: Rent: 3000 (1-2 bed) Groceries: 500 Medical Insurance: 400 pretax so it is 300 Car Lease/Gas/Insurance/maint: 200/150/100/50 Electricity/Gas/Water/Garbage : 150 WiFi: 60 Phone: 80 Netflix: 10 Misc (Dining out etc): 400 —- Total: 5000 $ TC 300K, Wifes TC around 125K
Grocery seems pretty tight. Again lot depends if you are vegeterian and dont eat organic food it may be ok.
Yes vegetarian and no fancy organic stuff. Are there any missing expenses that should be factored in ??
Travel may be if you travel. Like even if you do one weekend getaway to vegas or la or Lake Tahoe you will have to spend like 300-500 minimum with lodging and eating out.
Yes I am not including holidays etc just trying to get an idea about regular monthly stuff
Last time I checked the rent was $3,500 but that was a year ago
Can still see plenty of 1-2 beds in range of 2500-3500 in Sunnyvale on apartments.com. We are fine with an average apartment don’t need top notch facilities
Bare in mind that the rent can go up at any time, so your TC can reduce every year. Good luck 👍
If I were you, I’d look for a place that costs $2500-2700 (check Windsor ridge or heritage park). Use the $500-300 savings divided by 2 for each of you to have some spending on whatever you want - gym, video games, amazon purchases, makeup
Noted..Yes we would go for cheaper place once there just creating a ballpark budget for now. Are these places that you just said good to stay. Heritage park for eg is showing availability for 1bed at just 2300
Heritage park was a bed bug paradise at one point. I don't know how much has changed now. Windsor ridge is decent but old.
Overall budget seems just about right, you’ll end up spending little extra on Car and utilities.
Grocery is a little low, does that include toiletries/cleaning stuff? I've found a good quarter to a third of my budget goes into "extra" stuff like laundry detergent and Kleenex and conditioner or whatever. If you guys are currently spending about that amount then nevermind.
YOE and no kids ?
Impressed but phone for the 2 of you is only $80?
I pay 35 per month with cricket.
Add about 1K and have a sizeable emergency fund - 8-9 months worth.
Whats your TC?
