Could Shopify Internships Be Cancelled?
Hi everyone, I and a lot of other people are currently waiting for Fall developer/engineer internship offers from Shopify, but from reading posts on other threads about the current situation, is it possible that internships may be cancelled? From other posts it seems Shopify may be focusing just on hiring L6/7+ engineers, but I could be wrong about that. Last Friday my recruiter shared that they “are very excited about my candidacy” and that they are “finalizing details”, but perhaps I should temper my hopes? Does anyone know about the situation with regard to interns? TC: $45/hr YOE: 0 #Shopify #internship
Whatever happens could you update your post when you get a response? Internally none of the regular employees knows what the hell is going on and we're all sort of freaking out. I would keep applying to other places just in case the offer gets pulled. I would recommend pushing your recruiter to get the official offer sent.

did they sent you an email regarding your candidacy or did you ask about it ?
Recruiter sent an email asking for references, and a little while after I followed up asking for any updates. She replied last Friday saying they received the references and “are still very excited about my candidacy” and are “finalizing details” as I said above. So yeah I asked, and also sent another inquiry today.
did you interview for backend or frontend developer intern

We're doing internships for Fall still. I am in the process of interviewing folks this week. I'd just continue to be patient.
Someone who applied for backend intern posted the following on Reddit from an email they got: “We’ve shifted priorities to focus on more immediate initiatives at Shopify and are no longer recruiting for the role you were originally considered for.” Do you know anything about this?
Yup just heard about this a few days ago. It was sudden news.
Got the rejection today, and it seems like they’re sending this to other intern candidates as well: “I’m reaching out to let you know that, unfortunately, we will not be moving forward with your candidacy at this time. We’ve shifted priorities to focus on more immediate initiatives at Shopify and are no longer recruiting for the role you were originally considered for. I understand that this is disappointing news. Please rest assured that when we begin hiring for this role again, or if we see another role that could be a potential fit, we’ll reach out to you to see if you are still interested in interviewing and getting to know Shopify.”
I had my technical interview for Fall22 internship scheduled for today and even received a confirmation email yesterday, but I was waiting the entire duration and no one joined the call.... I seem to be in the same situation but they can't even cancel all the interviews and keep people from losing time in their current jobs :/
As a Shopify employee I am so sorry and ashamed that this has happened to you. It seems that Shopify is trying to speed run destroying its reputation.
Expect the best but be prepared for the worst.
