Who here has accepted a counter offer and been happy with the decision? Been interviewing and I have a few offers ranging from 50-100% more in TC. Does TikTok counter? Would they match a competitor that pays almost double? I like my team and am invested in the product, but I cannot work at this pace any more knowing I’m undervalued here. Non-tech. Blind tax 165 #tiktok #instacart #meta #netflix #apple #amazon #youtube #pinterest #roblox #instagram #spotify #coinbase #google
Generally you should stay away from a counter offer. You mgr will see you as unreliable and try to replace you. You will be passed on for career advancement opportunities and pay bump.
Kind of a ridiculous generalized answer. Any decent manager would be thrilled to counter an offer and have it accepted if it meant keeping a good employee. It is such a long and expensive process to get quality new hires, especially in the current economy. Much less the time spent ramping a new hire to the level of an experienced employee. It's worse to have someone leave and not have the opportunity to try a counter.
@rjCo84 The original thread clearly stated it’s a general case. You should not be giving a raise and promotion only when the employee quits. There might be very rare cases when a counter offer works (e.g. leave for relocation but co allows to work remotely). But in general, NO.
I used to think a counteroffer was a trap. Now I think it’s simply how a company knows where it needs to increase someone’s comp. They can’t increase everyone’s comp so only the people who need it get it. Treat the counteroffer as their response to your signal and nothing more. Which leaves you needing to decide what matters - if you’re working too hard, will increased comp actually fix that?
valid point - I could do the same amount of heavy lifting if my TC doubled, but even then I would eventually burn out unless other things changed. hard to leave. Stockholm syndrome once you’re here
I did it, I m the manager of the team now, It really depends on why are you leaving at the first place..
really depend on what’s your relationship with your manager. if you are No 1 on the team, it’s probably fine. if you are nobody on the team, leave
Nothing wrong accepting counters nowadays Good employees will get good offers. Employers always want to keep their best employees hence they give you a counter. I would evaluate both offers equally on compensation and career growth or whatever you think is important for yourself.
If you are high performer or valuable, you shouldn’t be afraid of taking counter offers. I have helped secure counter offers for my reports and I am more than happy when they chose to stay.
helpful insight, thanks - how long did it usually you take to secure the counter ?
1w or so.
As far as I know TikTok does not do counter offers. For double the pay, you should definitely leave
Why? Bloody give the details else your opinion is as good as cow dung.
