Modi is a legend, will be remembered for centuries to come
Currently my spouse is on my Premera Blue Cross plan MSFT offers. Spouse is going to start at Google in near future. We have kids. How we should adjust our health insurance plan? I vaguely recall that I may have to ask HR folks at both companies to “coordinate” our health insurance coverage? Please give some pointers. I am also wondering, can my spouse remain on my plan and claim my plan as secondary insurance? Thx!
google offers hsa matching, if you don’t have that it might make sense to switch over to your spouses plan when they join
If both of your insurance plans are good, I think it makes sense to keep it separate just so you don’t have to bet family deductible before insurance starts paying. Individual insurance will ensure lower deductible.
Thank you for your replies. I am wondering which option would provide the best coverage, most flexibility, etc?
As I understand they are both BCBS network so it's really just a financial decision. Most companies subsidize employee health insurance a lot more than families so usually it makes sense for each spouse to be on their employee-only plan. Google HSA plan is a lot cheaper than the other option at Google due to company contribution and tax savings if you contribute more.
You can have primary and secondary insurance one pays expenses the other deductible. You can deny insurance with Google or Microsoft opting to be on one policy. All boils down to your health, copayment and needs
