Apple SWE or Sr. SDET?

I got two companies. Sr SDET at well known star up(don’t want to say) or SWE at Apple AI/ML. Start up plays more but I’ll be in an SDET role. Really like my would be managed and work. Apple pay less but I’ll get the name on resume, position looks fun, good manager it seems, and in good org. Start up: Sr. SDET TC 350K + 60K RSU Apple: SWE ICT3 TC Y1: 330 TC Y2: 272 #tech #apple #offer

SWE > QA

SDET is not the same as QA. QA folk only do testing. SDETs, demeaning on the company and org, build test infra, can controls release pipelines, and yes, create test automation. SDETs are is more like Dev + QA + Dev Ops imo.

Doesn’t matter how important it is. For management and SWEs, they will always simplify it as QA, and this will hit you eventually.

SDETS are not QA. They are more valuable in some companies especially in Fintech. They are SDE + SRE + SDET and can be efficient and impactful depending on situation. It’s true though management is totally clueless when it comes to QE and that can backfire. But imagine doing shitty work in SWE just for the namesake ?

SWE is mostly CRUD type work and there is no guarantee that you will learn anything new.

Switching from SWE to SDET is pretty easy but not the other way around.
