Cracking FG

I have always wanted to work at FB and Google and these two are my dream companies. I have calls from FB and Google and these two are dream companies..I am not a pro at leetcode like some folks who can finish off hard problems in 30-35 mins..i had interviewed for Google around dec2015 and the on-site in Jan.. I didn't get through although one positive sign was that coding questn 3 round barring the first round were managable, in fact I was able to finish the code (may be I missed some corner cases).. first round was some algo design and I struggled a lot and came up with multiple ideas but couldnt reach a solution.. system design guy came 15 mins late so that round was left in kind f middle without any conclusion.. anyways I had heard that Google always gives good feedback but I never got any.. recruiter kept on repeating there was no specific feedback. I even asked if they had any negative comments coz I wanted to really make sure I get it right next time, but none.. now that I have calls I really want to esnure I give it a good shot.. specific question for FB n Google pros, I)how many questions is one expected to solve entirely per round ii) what is the level of questions leetcode wise hard , medium.. Thanks in advance

Worked at both. Coding round usually consists of 2 problems. One warm up and the other is the real one. Solving the first one is about 30% of success. Explaining the optimal solution for the second brings you to 50% chance of positive feedback. Providing some pseudo code or coding the most challenging parts raises the chances of passing to about 70%. Coding everything up and catching edge cases and bugs leads you to 90%. And to nail it completely, give some feedback on how the interviewer could made the problem more interesting/challenging and just be nice, not arrogant:)

Everything but don’t give feedback to the interviewer, everyone is not good at taking feedback.

Thanks for the feedback guys.. 2 ques per round? May b that was the problem ..I didn't expect two ques per round and hence took my own sweet time to solve the question🙂 questions were backtracking and dfs variants and may be the interviewer had more questions in mind.. will try to time my practice accordingly.. thank you

Google never gives feedback. Finishing the code isn't necessarily a good sign. That's the bare minimum. Plenty of people do solve the question with complete, working code, and still get rejected. If you don't come up with a solution at all for a question, that's a huge red flag. Read cracking the coding interview, practice leetcode. Also, no offense, but your post is kind of rambling and had a lot of improper grammar. If you show poor communication skills in the interview, that will also count against you so you may want to work on that.

Thanks a lot.. sorry wrote this on my phone and was in a haste.. but it's a constructive feedback in any case..it's a bummer that Google doesn't give feedback..

And also you should avoid giving reasons for not doing something right. If you did it over your phone you should take a look at it again and double check your question and giving a reason to sound like it was not your fault makes people distrust you. Just giving you feedback, I'm not trying to offend you.

Your dream is to sell ads and undermine privacy? Maybe you need better dreams

Like helping ICE!

Microsoft sqlguy Jul 1, 2018

Nice straw man, sorry if I hurt your ego by dissing your team. If MS’ whole business model was helping ice I wouldn’t work there, but that story was much overblown. Selling ads is literally the whole model of those two companies. I can’t imagine more unfulfilling work.

What is current TC? 2.5 years would be a huge blow to what you could have made. That feeling sucks especially with getting seniority at G and their amazing refreshes. Don’t mess up this time! Spend 20 hours a day preparing if needed

TC 210k.. yeah trying to put in as much time as I can after work.. hopefully this time I would be better prepared..
