Hi all, Looking to see if i can get some guidance on my plan to build an app. Ive recently quit my job at a bank to create an App that solves a problem I discovered whilst working. Obviously, with my background I lack the skills required to hack together an App myself, so i’ve been speaking to companies who can build it for me. I’m tossing up between a few options here: 1. Engage a company to build the complete app(least likely) which i’ve been quoted to be around 100k USD per platform. 2. Engage a company to create the design, wireframes, etc costing around 10-15k USD, then either: - pitch and look for funding to build the rest of the app (how plausible is this option?) - find a cofounder(somehow) 3. Hire a freelancer instead of a company to do either of the above. I would love to hear some of your experiences/ opinions.
If you’re rich, get somebody to build it for you. Otherwise... 1. Get your job back, or find another job. Only make sure they don’t/can’t claim your out of work inventions (also never use company property!). 2. Read a lot of startup advice, anything is better than what you’re planning. 3. Do the research.
I think you could do all the above in reverse order. Get some freelancer to do an MVP, doesn't have to be that polished. Then use that to gather enough evidence so you can pitch and raise funding. Once you receive funding hire designer and developers to build it into a full blown app. In the latter stages you can even get more freelancers. Engaging a company might not be the best thing to do as your platform specs will change as you build it and companies will either charge you for each and every change or they just won't be flexible enough to accommodate your changes.
+1 I’ve built several apps. Feel free to dm me.
I helped to create content for the glossary of my company's App. I also agree that you should work backwards, as stated here. Plus, collab with a good tech freelancer ASAP.
You should really consider learning to build the app yourself. Not only will it grant you the freedom to quickly iterate on the app based on user feedback, it’ll give more credibility to yourself should you seek partners out. It’s not that difficult if you really dedicate yourself to it. You said you quit your company, so you should have plenty of time
Any reasonably intelligent person can build an app themselves.
DM me. I'll walk you through options. Good luck!
Building an app is not that hard. If you get millions of users then you need lot of work to keep up with the traffic. You can then leverage AWS or some other cloud services at that point
