Got an offer for both firms in an internal strategy team. Credit suisse will be for Investment Banking strategy and J.P. Morgan will be Consumer and Community Bank strategy(credit cards, you invest, etc). Which one would you choose in terms of culture and growth? Both are located in nyc. I know most people will choose the higher TC but should brand name matter? JPM seems to have the better brand. Also, working on strategy for credit cards/fintech could make the transition to fintech easier.
TC & strategy work > Consumer work
They’re both strategy, CS is in IB strategy and JPM is in consumer strategy
IB strategy is better for Exit opps and credit suisse has a really good brand name. In this case don’t focus that much on the name since they are both highly regarded. Role and TC leads to CS being the winner
Depends on what your long term goal is. Are you switching internally at jpm? Your tagged as jpm
Yeah it’s a move internally
JPM if you want to do consumer fintech/strategy. Cs if you want do to do ib/capital market fintech. Investment banking strategy is not any better than ccb
In finance, retail banking is the ugly (read boring and lower paying) step sister investment banking
don’t they make the more money than investment banking?
Maybe as a whole but definitely not as much per headcount. Your opportunities will be a lot better on the IB side. A good way to evaluate is to look at the caliber of people in the teams you will be joining. A bit of Linkedin digging should get you that info easily.
JPM, all the way. You will make up the difference in YE bonus
The TC includes bonus
I would say JP, even if that is the case
I have no idea about the JPM role, but a friend of mine is a VP in probably the same group at CS and hates it.
What does he hate about it?
CS strategy team is like spinning it's wheels without going anywhere currently... Have to go to zurrick to get anything done. Full time back in the office right now

I don’t think people are reading the question… IB strategy sounds incredibly boring and not transferable to any FinTech/startup. I think you’re way better off in consumer strategy, and JPM obviously crushes that with Chase, You Invest, etc.
Choose the company that has less layoffs.
Stay out of big banks. They are souls crushers, pay is small and upward mobility is improbable. Join a Fintech and fail quickly. Your future self will be grateful.
