More layoff news. I was really excited when I first read about the tech but things haven’t gone well since then. https://www.forbes.com/sites/cyrusfarivar/2023/11/08/crisis-at-cruise-robotaxi-ceo-confirms-coming-layoffs-amid-scramble-to-rebuild-public-trust/?sh=76979d964ee0
If they didn't lie, maybe nothing would have happened.
Probably. An accident can be recovered from with maximum transparency and accountability. A coverup can never regain trust. I’ll never step foot in a cruise now that I know they can’t be trusted.
Curious, is that robotaxi really working? Self driving taxi?
It depends you still need some one overseeing it and struggles when there is heavy pedestrian traffic. IMO it is more ideal for things like airport shuttle rather than city driving.
Cruise reportedly had driver assistants helping the cars every 4 - 5 miles
I’ve always wondered why these companies are focusing on robotaxis in crowded cities instead of highway truck driving or taxis driving to the airport in suburbs, a lot less risk that way.
That’s what makes the most sense but it doesn’t infinite revenue potential and goal of eventually making car ownership obsolete so it’s hard to get VC funding for that.
Because their tech does not work on highway. Imagine the car just stop at the middle of a highway because it does not know what to do.
This is going to be a hell of a ride.
Why don’t they just fire some high level exec, like most companies running into scandals do. They’re really jeopardizing the whole company with this. Also it’s really stupid to hide things like this. Eventually everything is going to come out, and this way looks 10 times worse than just admitting it.
We love to hate on Google, but they are probably the most ethical company in this domain. The least ethical company is Tesla, and even they haven’t rolled out driverless teslas. Cruise tried to position itself as this pragmatic company. My God was everything a farce.
