Recently got an offer from both Stripe and Cruise for a software engineer position. Compensation is very similar for both offers. My top concerns now are that 1) WLB at both seems to be team dependent, 2) Stripe being predominantly Ruby based isn't great, and 3) reviews for cruise look like it isn't well managed. Which would you join and why?
Get away from Cruise! It's a toxic company! Rating on Blind says everything. Stripe is definitely a better choice here if we have to choose one!
Cruise management is a sh** show... Can't comment on stripe
One more point to consider, cruise recently announced a program to provide liquidity for employees who want to sell their equity. Meanwhile stripe caps equity upside to a yearly basis, ie your $x worth of rsus per year is reevaluated each year based on the company’s current valuation For those reasons, I’d be inclined to choose cruise. But I know nothing about the toxic culture others are mentioning
If you care at all about toxic culture, you should avoid Stripe. They and Amazon are of their own league reputation wise on blind
Ruby isn’t going anywhere anytime soon unless you’re on a new infra team.
Stripe. More upside possible and more mature.
