We have always given $20 to our son. This event (book fair) occurs few times a year and the books are expensive. 1) how much do you give to your kids? 2) are the books worth it? EDIT: this was an eye opener and loved seeing how much all of you enjoyed book fairs in your school days. Funded $30 and will keep increasing by $10 each fair if he reads the books few times and shares the story with us. TIA #parenting #workingparent
I liked the scholastic book fairs as a kid and always wished I had more money to spend. Way back then (20 years ago) $20 wouldn't have bought much
My child has read 17 books in three months. Our policy is that if he promises to try to read the book then we will buy it for him.
Those scholastic book fairs were such a fun part of my childhood. Back then $20 could get you like 2-3 books. The books are what you make of it, some education, some fun/hobby so make sure you set that boundary. I remember using my own money to buy a few PC games (Rollercoaster Tycoon and Rayman). Ah good memories.
Holy fuck I loved those things. The books are dumb, but I was overjoyed when I was allowed to order a book 😭
10000%
Bruh they’re literally books. Would you rather spend 20 dollars now for books or 2000 dollars down the line for video games.
That’s my daughter and all books are from our local library 🤩 Scholastic she got few in fares and treasure them but real experience is from our neighborhood library, GoodReads app
I loved it as a kid, I'd read maybe half as much without it
my dad who was a blue collar chinese worker at a restaurant always let me get 2 books from the scholastic book fair. truly one of the best memories from childhood
I volunteered at the school book fair. Kids really enjoy choosing their own books, figuring out how to maximize their money and spending every last penny 😊 Let them have some fun!
2 working parents and can’t afford books? That’s taking stingy to a whole new level. I think the message you’re sending to your son about investing in himself is more important than the books themselves
We buy lots of books throughout the year. Just saying the $8 book from the book fair isn’t worth every time. PS: we donate over $1000 to schools parent teacher association every year. So not stingy just trying to ensure we are paying the right amount.
Then why are you even asking this question? That $1000 thrown into the ether will clearly be more misallocated than the $8 where you know exactly where it’s going.
